Why I Teared Up At Disney On Ice: Dare to Dream

Everyone loves Disney right? I think we all take for granted how awesome Disney really is. I love Disney Land, I love Disney branded toys and clothing, and I thought I was going to like Disney on Ice. I was wrong, I loved it.

Growing up I was the biggest Disney fan. My husband still talks about the time we had to go stand in line twice to see the Princesses so I could see them all at Disney Land. I have Disney figurines and decor all over my house and we all own our share of Disney branded clothing. To say we are a Disney family is an understatement. Going to Disney on Ice has been the center of most conversations this last week.

Sitting tonight and watching this show I kept looking over at my kids and teared up a little watching sheer joy on their faces as they watched their heroes skate around telling stories that were full of hope and happiness. As a mom you love things that bring your kids joy, but when they are learning positive messages and values it means that much more. I realized last night that I love Disney for a whole new reason. I love what it gives to my kids.

Ok, now that I have explained my mommy emotions, let me tell you how fun Disney on Ice was.

We attended the pre show event which in and of itself was so much fun. The Kanani Pua Dance dancers came and performed Moana styled dancing and we loved it. They even taught us a little dancing of our own. We made fun crafts including Moana bead bracelets and Kakamora cups with the dancers. After a while we had two special guests arrive and before I knew what was happening my little girl had run over and was giving Minnie the biggest hug. My son, who doesn’t leave my arms was on his way to see Mickey. It was seriously a dream come true for them and they were on cloud nine before the performance even started!

The show started out and my kids were memorized. I grew up with a sister who competed often as an ice skater, so ice shows were something I was used to, and even I was speechless. I loved the show from start to end and could have stayed for more. My 18 month old sat there enthralled and when intermission started he had barely even moved. My daughter kept hitting me in the arm and pointing to the stage to tell me all about the characters. She was gasping and filled with excitement over and over all night long.

The caliber of performances was true to Disney fashion because every skater was on point. The show was filled with fun and lots of audience involvement that always adds that extra level. Not only was the skating flawless, but these skaters turned this show into something else as they effortlessly ran up and down set pieces, flew into the air on silks, and navagated a boat across the ice. Each new princess brought a new element of fun and we were left with simply this… the magic of Disney.

Disney on Ice is a must for anyone with kids, it is an experience that will never be forgotten.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to celebrate family and tradition with a special sing-along with Miguel from Disney•Pixar’s Coco in a live fiesta Disney On Ice style at the start of the show! He was a really fun start to the show that set the audience off with excitment singing along to their favorite new song!
